Nestled in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Biltmore embodies the vision of George W. Vanderbilt and the luxury of the Gilded Age. At its heart stands Biltmore House, America’s largest home and a National Historic Landmark open to the public.
Set among 8,000 acres, including 75 acres of magnificent gardens designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, Biltmore House was completed in 1895 by architect Richard Morris Hunt. The estate encompasses a fully operational farm, embodying the agricultural legacy and ambition of its founder. In keeping with the Vanderbilt tradition of entertaining in style, today’s guests are treated not only to the elegant sights of a 19th century country estate, but also to epicurean pleasures reminiscent of the Vanderbilts’ gracious lifestyle. George Vanderbilt was a collector of wine and lover of Champagne.
Still privately owned and maintained by Vanderbilt’s grandson, William A.V. Cecil, Biltmore continues to function as a working estate and farm. The property’s agricultural services contribute to overall profitability while supplying its five restaurants with fresh produce and fine wines. These restaurants, The Stable Café, The Bistro, The Arbor Grill, Deerpark Restaurant and The Dining Room at the Inn on Biltmore Estate, have established a reputation for excellence, featuring estate-raised products and wines.
